Welcome KHS Classmates of '65

Fellow KHS Class of 1965 Classmates,

We are pleased to announce that the recipient of the 2026 KHS Class of 1965 Scholarship is John “Jack” Purvis.

Jack has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship in recognition of his accomplishments, character, and future potential.
As this was our first year, the selection process was both thorough and thoughtful.

A subcommittee of five classmates volunteered to review this year's applications. We were truly impressed by the quality of the students who applied and by the accomplishments, aspirations, and personal stories they shared.

This year, the committee carefully evaluated more than 41 applications, considering academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, community service, leadership potential, and each student's personal statement. After extensive review and discussion, we narrowed the field to approximately four exceptional finalists.

The final selection was made during a one-hour Zoom meeting in which the committee carefully compared the strengths of each finalist. It was not an easy decision, as all of the finalists were highly deserving candidates. However, after thoughtful discussion and consideration, Jack emerged as the recipient based on the overall strength of his application and the values reflected in his personal statement.

We are proud to recognize John “Jack” Purvis as this year's scholarship recipient. His achievements, character, and future goals exemplify the qualities our scholarship seeks to encourage and support.

Included with this announcement is a photo of Jack with his check, whom we are delighted to introduce to our classmates as the recipient of the KHS Class of 1965 Scholarship this year.

On behalf of the scholarship committee, we thank all of the students who applied and congratulate Jack on this well-deserved honor. We also extend our sincere appreciation to the members of the KHS Class of 1965 whose generosity continues to make this scholarship possible. Your support allows us to invest in the next generation of KHS graduates and helps keep our class legacy alive.

Sincerely,

The KHS Class of 1965 Scholarship Committee

Jack’s Statement:

"I have been working since I was 14 years old and from an early age, I’ve always known that college would be the next step for me after high school, While I am fortunate that my parents are able to contribute toward my education there is still a significant financial burden that our family will need to manage, any scholarship I receive will go directly toward tuition, books. and other essential expenses and will help lessen the stress that comes with the overwhelming cost of college.
I plan to contribute equally to my education alongside my parents, and I fully intend to continue working throughout college to help offset the remaining expenses.  Receiving this scholarship would not only reduce the financial pressure on my family but it would also allow me to focus more deeply on my academic goals.  I am grateful for any support that helps make this opportunity more attainable”
